From May 31, 2014
Permanent installation
National Gallery of Arts in Tirana presents “Taxi”, a sound specific project with the participation of Egle Budvytyte, Erik Bunger, Jakup Ferri, Bruno Muzzolini, Christopher Milne, Ferhat Ozgur, Steve Piccolo, Anri Sala, Bert Theis, Shingo Yoshida and Fani Zguro. Each artist was inviting to propose a sound piece for TAXI in Tirana City. “Taxi” is a project than begins from Anri Sala’s site specific “No Formula One No Cry” which consists in the realization of a soundtrack, where the noise that the Formula One cars makes is played along street dogs barking. The presentation of Sala’s soundtrack is done in different taxies around the world, from Frankfurt to Miami... The project is being documented with the help of visiting cards, which help establish direct contact with the taxi driver. Anyone interested can order the cab under his mobile number and ask the taxi driver to turn on the sound project for the duration of the trip.

Timetable of screenings:

Tuesday June 17th – Jesse Jones (IE)
Tuesday June 24th – Pavel Brăila (MD)
Background
The project explores 'invisible violence' as it is discernable within quotidian, domestic, work-related, and everyday life; administrative and bureaucratic violence; visual violence in advertising and media; as well as subtle forms of sectarianism and community animosity arising from recent historical circumstances. These are forms of violence that are arguably globally omnipresent. These comparisons of violence shall be explored by bringing together artists' work that are problematizing territorial, nationalistic, mythological and identity-related topics in a topical fashion, without being bogged down by dualistic, partitioned or oppositional representations.
The theme of violence as a subject for an exhibition is naturally a sensitive and often provocative one, and sometimes generative of Manichean definitions of 'us and them.' Therefore, with this project, it is an aim to resist undue focus on issues of war, genocide and extreme violence, while enabling these to be a tangible, if unseen backdrop to the project. The violence being predominantly explored – that which is depicted or investigated in the invited artists' work - is forms of violence within language, within representation, as a result of shifting socio-economic conditions, and shifting ideas and policies that may be identified as enacting a 'cultural' violence upon geo-political bodies and individuals. This does not mean that these more topical and more pronounced forms of violence (terrorism, war, ethnic cleansing and genocide) are explicitly avoided in this exhibition, but that instead they do not dominate the field of references, which itself aims to cast several beacons on different forms of cultural and contemporary violence simultaneously. Additionally, a variety of obstacles that appeared during the production of this overall project, which ironically may be defined as key examples of invisible violence, will be presented and deciphered alongside the exhibition and its discourses. Originally a three-country project, and now touring between Serbia and Spain without an Irish partner, the processes of this project's development had unexpectedly and inadvertently uncovered forms of invisible violence.
This project aims to depict the universalising aspects of forms of invisible violence as they are currently prevalent all over Europe; forms of violence that are, for example, seen as a central threat to the production of egalitarian ideals of European citizenship.

WERKLEITZ FESTIVAL 2014
WERKLEITZ FESTIVAL 2014

Contemporary art was born in the last 20 years. The new art emerging through changes in institutional structures as well as in structural features was bearing various different characteristics. The exhibition curated by Hasan Bülent Kahraman envelops these differences with two fundamental concepts: autonomy and beauty.
Autonomy is one of the most striking qualities of new art. This was achieved through a comprehensive and compelling relationship that it established with the political and the social. Notions such as memory, identity, belonging, space and body altogether formed the backbone of the works of this period, but at the same time, these were creating the plane of intersection of the social and the political.
At the same time, the exhibition establishes the beautiful as another structural feature of the new art. Perhaps the most overlooked characteristic of new art in Turkey is highlighted through the works in this exhibition. The exhibition advocates that the aesthetic beauty becomes a specific “tool” for the constitution of the aesthetics of the surface, the volume, the space and of the body. Equally, it argues that the beautiful is adopted by artists as a founding principle and emphasises that the new art in Turkey is turned into a distinctive but at the same time a political resistance context.

Metamorphosis Chat is
the title of Ferhat Özgür’s video shown as part of the exhibition. As its name
implies, this is about an artistic chat. Throughout the week Turkish visual
artist Ferhat Özgür and French choreographer Alain Buffard will take time to
meet and bring together their approach to ideas and practices. The
audience will be invited to share this artistic encounter: from a selection of
videos by Ferhat Özgür, the two artists will hold an open dialogue on their
respective fields.

histoires parallèles, pays mêlés
november 18 and 21
Alain Buffard, who studied dance with Alwin Nikolais, met with US choreographers Yvonne Rainer and Anna
Halprin, who would have a great influence on his career. Performer for Daniel Larrieu or Régine Chopinot among others, he created Good Boy in 1998, a
solo work as uncompromising and straightforward as a manifesto. While ever
changing, Buffard’s work has always been dealing with recurring issues.
Following a period of questioning art, body and genre, the choreographer
started to focus on the suggestion that dance is mainly about the body – as a
political challenge – which cannot be ignored: his pieces are regularly shown
during Montpellier Danse Festival and throughout the year: Baron
Samedi, Tout va bien, Good boy.
Histoires parallèles : pays mêlés (parallel stories – blended countries) was created in
the Spring 2013 in Nimes around the ethnography gallery of the Natural History
Museum. This ]domaines[ in the CCN will provide for the
re-invention of this event in a location not dedicated to visual arts. It reflects
the variety of Alain Buffard’s practices, with no concern for hierarchy, and
above all the need to shift presentation frameworks and assumed categories that
go with them.
Histoires
parallèles : pays mêlés illustrates a journey towards or from the other.
Fragments of stories, networks of images and accounts combining special
chronicles, uncommon paths, specific knowledge; a journey across different
practices as the basis of our memories of the future.
Guest artists are willing to display these comings and
goings from one culture to another, which do not however lead to a cultural
blending. They work on the plasticity of the world by refusing to set
boundaries, forms and genres. They share the will to account for the nobleness
and deep humanity of the people and subjects with whom they interact through
works that illustrate contemporary practices within various converging areas.
From the other who fashions our own singularity we know
that our future memory is already out there, elsewhere.
