Ferhat Özgür filme une femme sur fond de bâtiments en construction, une Anatolienne voilée qui chante une complainte. Cinquante ans après un film de commande réalisé sur le nouveau quartier des Buis, Jakob Gautel a réalisé un « film-miroir », projeté en vis-à-vis du premier, opposant aux images anciennes des vues du quartier d’aujourd’hui, barres délabrées ou vouées à la démolition. Guillaume Linard-Osorio questionne l'histoire des utopies urbaines, en mettant en perspective les images d'un film d'aventure, "L'Homme de Rio" de Philippe de Broca réalisé en 1963, dont certaines séquences ont été tournées dans Brasilia alors en chantier, avec l'histoire de ses ouvriers bâtisseurs, privés de la possibilité d'une ascension sociale car relégués aux franges de la ville. Filipa César traverse en plans séquences le quartier "Bouça", issu d’un projet de logements sociaux conçu par l’architecte Álvaro Siza en 1973. Les travaux, arrêtés juste après le putsch de 1975, ont repris en 1999 et ont été terminés en 2006. Romana Schmalisch rapproche par collage des bâtiments soviétiques des années 1920 et des films de la fin des années 1930. Elle confronte le début de l’avant-garde aux plans mégalomanes staliniens. Invité à Phnom-Penh,Jean-Luc Vilmouth a été saisi par l’existence d’un bâtiment qu’un assistant de Le Corbusier, l’architecte cambodgien Vann Molyvann, a construit dans les années soixante sur le modèle utopique de la Cité radieuse. Les habitants se sont installés dans ce bâtiment, bien qu’inachevé, et l’ont transformé. La vie a repris le dessus, comme les usages locaux.

MOVING_IMAGE est un cycle de séances mensuelles de projection à la Gaîté Lyrique, un espace laboratoire de découverte et de réflexion dédié aux pratiques contemporaines de l’image en mouvement. Œuvres vidéos, filmiques et multimédias sont présentées sous forme d’abécédaire. Chaque séance propose un éclairage critique et prospectif sur ce domaine aux frontières mouvantes, où convergent à la fois un questionnement esthétique, social et politique de notre époque, et des enjeux liés à l’évolution des modes de production et de diffusion.

MOVING_IMAGE est un cycle produit par la Gaîté lyrique et proposé par les Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin/Madrid. Les Rencontres Internationales reçoivent le soutien de la Ville de Paris, du Conseil Régional d'Île-de-France et de la DRAC Île-de-France - Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication.

National Gallery of Arts in Tirana presents “Taxi”, a sound specific project with the participation of Egle Budvytyte, Erik Bunger, Jakup Ferri, Bruno Muzzolini, Christopher Milne, Ferhat Ozgur, Steve Piccolo, Anri Sala, Bert Theis, Shingo Yoshida and Fani Zguro. Each artist was inviting to propose a sound piece for TAXI in Tirana City. “Taxi” is a project than begins from Anri Sala’s site specific “No Formula One No Cry” which consists in the realization of a soundtrack, where the noise that the Formula One cars makes is played along street dogs barking. The presentation of Sala’s soundtrack is done in different taxies around the world, from Frankfurt to Miami... The project is being documented with the help of visiting cards, which help establish direct contact with the taxi driver. Anyone interested can order the cab under his mobile number and ask the taxi driver to turn on the sound project for the duration of the trip.

Background 

The project explores 'invisible violence' as it is discernable within quotidian, domestic, work-related, and everyday life; administrative and bureaucratic violence; visual violence in advertising and media; as well as subtle forms of sectarianism and community animosity arising from recent historical circumstances. These are forms of violence that are arguably globally omnipresent. These comparisons of violence shall be explored by bringing together artists' work that are problematizing territorial, nationalistic, mythological and identity-related topics in a topical fashion, without being bogged down by dualistic, partitioned or oppositional representations. 

The theme of violence as a subject for an exhibition is naturally a sensitive and often provocative one, and sometimes generative of Manichean definitions of 'us and them.' Therefore, with this project, it is an aim to resist undue focus on issues of war, genocide and extreme violence, while enabling these to be a tangible, if unseen backdrop to the project. The violence being predominantly explored – that which is depicted or investigated in the invited artists' work - is forms of violence within language, within representation, as a result of shifting socio-economic conditions, and shifting ideas and policies that may be identified as enacting a 'cultural' violence upon geo-political bodies and individuals. This does not mean that these more topical and more pronounced forms of violence (terrorism, war, ethnic cleansing and genocide) are explicitly avoided in this exhibition, but that instead they do not dominate the field of references, which itself aims to cast several beacons on different forms of cultural and contemporary violence simultaneously. Additionally, a variety of obstacles that appeared during the production of this overall project, which ironically may be defined as key examples of invisible violence, will be presented and deciphered alongside the exhibition and its discourses. Originally a three-country project, and now touring between Serbia and Spain without an Irish partner, the processes of this project's development had unexpectedly and inadvertently uncovered forms of invisible violence.

This project aims to depict the universalising aspects of forms of invisible violence as they are currently prevalent all over Europe; forms of violence that are, for example, seen as a central threat to the production of egalitarian ideals of European citizenship.

Once I used to watch the movies of Ingmar Bergman, now I paste notes taken from E-flux and Art-agenda. "All About These ... Ladies and Gentlemen" is nothing but an illustration of the images that set these notes in motion (Fani Zguro). 

Soma Mexico DF presents "All About These... Ladies and Gentlemen", a video screening curated by Fani Zguro in collaboration with Gallery On The Move, from May 8 until May 8, 2014. "All About These... Ladies and Gentlemen" that got started at Viafarini Milan in 2013 and also was presented at Co-Pilot Istanbul and The National Gallery of Arts Tirana in 2014, is a project that keeps on and changing in time. In every new presentation, will be introduced new artists and videos. The structure remains the same, while the information is replaced with other dates.

WERKLEITZ FESTIVAL 2014

Das Werkleitz Festival wurde von Marcel Schwierin (Berlin) und Luc-Carolin Ziemann (Leipzig) kuratiert.

Film ist ein ideales Medium, um das Motiv des Doppelgängers zu visualisieren, denn nur dem Kino gelingt es tatsächlich, die täuschend echte Illusion der Verdopplung der Wirklichkeit auf der Leinwand zu erzeugen. Der Doppelgänger ist somit ein filmisches Sujet par excellence. In den mehr als 40 Filmen des Festivals begegnen den Zuschauern Doubles, Klone und Roboter, Spiegel-, Zerr- und Vexierbilder aller Art. Die Filme fragen nach dem Unterschied von Original und Kopie, verhandeln die politische Dimension der Austauschbarkeit beider und ergründen, wie Doppelgänger in einer Welt, in der Kopien allgegenwärtiger sind als Originale, zu Projektionsflächen und Orientierungspunkten werden. So unterschiedlich die Doppelgänger, so vielfältig sind ihre filmischen Verkörperungen: die Frage, wo das Ich aufhört und das Du beginnt, wird in Spiel-, Dokumentar- und Experimentalfilmen genauso verhandelt wie in Animationen, Videokunst und Musikvideos. Dabei treffen einfache Spiegeltricks auf komplexe digitale Animationen. Oft erscheinen die Künstler selbst in ihren Filmen und konfrontieren die Abbilder ihres Ichs mit der äußeren oder der inneren Welt, mal als beschwingter Slapstick, mal als verstörende Vision.

ART COLOGNE, 9-13 APRIL 2014

SOUVENIRS FROM EARTH & ART COLOGNE present FILM COLOGNE, a new sector at the Cologne art fair. 50 submissions from participating galleries are presented in a dedicated video lounge at the entrance area of the exhibition. From April 9th-13th the 9h program will be screened in the ART COLOGNE lounge and live on SOUVENIRS FROM EARTH through cable networks in France and Germany and on www.sfe.tv. 

The program was composed by SFE curator Alec Crichton with assistance of Daniel Hug, director of ART COLOGNE.
